UNITEDS IN WAIPAWA.

INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE EXPLAINS.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WAIPUKURAU, this day.

Mr. E. A. Goodger, independent United party candidate for Waipawa electorate opened his campaign at Waipukurau last night. The candidate explained that his reason for contesting the seat was because he had been asked by a large number of supporters of the party who were dissatisfied at not having been consulted in the selection of the official candidate. Mr. Goodger dealt trenchantly with Reform's policy, land settlement, the national debt, advances to settlers, and hydro electricity. He said that the station at Mangahao was a colossal blunder, and contended that if the Government had concentrated on the development of Waikaremoana there would have been no need of either Mangahao or Arapuni. Both of which appeared to be political undertakings. He favoured free, secular and compulsory education and extension of free dental treatment, especially to back-block children. The savings bank should be regarded as the people's bank, and the interest, earning limit kept high.
