ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
LABOUR CRITICISED.
SAMOAN AND PARTY CAPITAL.
MISS MELVILLE AT MT. ROSKILL. A strong attack on the Labour party was made by Miss Ellen Melville, Reform candidate for Roskill, at the Baptist Hall, Mount Roskill, last evening. The candidate criticised the action of Mr. Holland in regard to Samoan affairs. The leader of the Labour party was attempting to secure the position of Prime Minister, but his political actions were not siich as to fit him for the position. He had endeavoured to make party capital out of a serious situation, and allied himself with capitalists, whom he should have regarded as his traditional enemies. A representative of New Zealand should at least be loyal to its interests and jealous of its reputation.
However carefully Labour expounded its platform for election purposes, it was still the same in reality as it had always been, said the candidate. As late as July fi last Mr. Holland admitted, in the House of Representatives that the nationalisation of the land and all industries was still in the Labour party's programme. The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks and appreciation at the conclusion of her address.
