FEWER BIRTHS.
INCREASE IN MARRIAGES. ■ | There were nine less births in October this year than in the same month last year, but marriages went up by 35. Deaths were less this year by 13. The figures for last mouth were as follows, those for October last year being in parentheses: Births, 290 (299); deaths, 157 (170); marriages, 182 (147). Marriages before the Registrar continue to grow in popularity. Last month he performed 43 compared with 33 the previous October.
For the ten months of this year the figures are: Births, 2717 (2931 for the same period last year); deaths, 1492 (1530); marriages, 1681 (1654).
