TWO MEN FINED.
"STARTED IX SMALL WAY."
"They only started in a small way," said Mr. McLiver at the Police Court this morning on behalf of Sydney Montague Wynyard and William K. Wynyard, who appeared in connection with a charge of keeping a common gaming house. The charge was preferred against Sydney M. Wynyard. "and the police evidence showed that William K. Wynyard. a cousin, was his clerk. Mr. McLiver said the amounts were only small, and the room where the offence had been committed, No. 7, Mining Chambers, had been used for jraming purposes for only three months. There was no attempt to conceal anything from the police, and there was no suggestion of dishonesty. WiDiam K. Wynyard was found on the premises when the police visit was made, and Sydney M. Wynyard was arrested subseouentlv.
The maximum penalty, said Chief Detective Hammond, was £100 for offences of the kind. Svdney M. Wynvard was fined £20 and Win. K. Wvnvard £10.
