WANGANUI WHISPERS.

WEST COAST HOPES FOR

TRENTHAM.

J PROSPECTS FOR WAVERLEY. (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") WANGANUI, this day. P. Tilley will take Laughing Prince, Mandane, Consent, and Cashier to Trentham to-day. Laughing Prince has not been paid up for on Saturday, but will run in the Harcourt Cup on Monday. The son of Quantock appears all the better for racing in the north, and should run. a good race in the weight-for-age event. Mandane has done a fair amount of good work, and should strip well in the big handicap on Saturday. She has not raced so far this season, and this may go against her, as she is one that improves with racing.

Cashier will be a runner in the Wainui Handicap, and he is capable of a good performance over a mile.

Consent figures in the Shorts Handicap, but he will be meeting some good sprinters in that event.

W. Rayner took only two, Mask and Lysander, to Trentham yesterday. The former is in good fettle, and will not want for friends in the Wellington Handicap,' while Lysander lias been galloping in a style which suggests that he will yet show a return to his best form. If he can do that he will take no end of beating in the Shorts Handicap.

Star Area is shaping well on the tracks, and on his form at Masterton he should make things interesting in the Waverley Cup, in which Bisox is generally regarded as something like a moral, as she is particularly well treated.

Tuicer, an Elysian gelding, engaged in the Hurdles at Waverley, is on tie small side, but is a good jumper.

Calithe, in F. Lind's stable, has shown natural jumping ability, and he will not want for friends in the Hurdles at Waverley.

It is expected there will be a shortage of riders at Waverley, and this may lead to a number of scratchings, as much will depend on horsemen available as to certain horses starting in various events.

Ceremony was not taken to Trentham, as he did not do well on the trip to Auckland, but will be given every chance to show his best at the Auckland Summer meeting.

W. Ravner has great hopes of Pedestal proving a top-notclier later in the season. He has fined down well, and it is evident his trip north did him good, though he was not raced.

White Ringlet has been galloping in fine style lately, and she will be one of the fancied ones in the Hack Flying at Waverley.

Mendip reads well in the Rimutaka Handicap at Trentham. The field will be a large one, but he will probably have something to say in the finish

It is thought that Rillett, who was badly staked at Masterton through trvin® to jump a fence after getting away with her rider (T. Green), has run her last race. It is understood Nukumai will race at Trentham, and not at Waverley. Just So is hitting out well, and she will be much fancied in her race at Waverley. 1
