SPRING RACING.

THE WAIKATO MEETING.

ACCEPTANCES FOR FIRST DAY.

THE FIELDS REVIEWED.

The spring meeting of the Waikato Racing Club will open at Te Rapa tomorrow. and with the good fields engaged it only remains for the weather fine to make the fixture a successful one. The Hurdles. Thr> programme will open with the Waimai Hurdles. Uralla is top-weight with 10.13. She has won up to two miles o\ er and must be given a chance. Bourn won the Raglan Handicap Hurdles, one mile and three-quar-ters. at the last Waikato meeting, while at the Great Northern fixture he captured the Penrose Hurdles and the Orakei Hurdles, of similar distance. He has not started since then. Gala Day has yet to make his appearance as a hurdler, but he would only need to jump to have a show. The same may be said of Stormy. Ripon Abbey has a lot of pace, and at the last Waikato meeting was second to Beau Cavalier. He has not raced this season. Lucullent has not much to commend him for a long time past; in fact, he only started once last season, and has no't raced this season. Mangani is a useful hurdler, while Rangi Sarto was second to Diana's Lad on two occasions at Riccarton last August, and afterwards won the Lincoln Steeplechase. Of the others, Hangawera may be the best. Most of the money mav no on BOURS RIPON ABBEY URALLA. A Division Race. Owing to the number of starters in the Trial Stakes, this race has had to be divided. Most of those engaged are unknown quantities, and probably the best backed in the first division may be

FOREIGN FANCY KINGSLAND.

And in the second division,

RED LION BLACK MAIRE.

The Two-Year-Olds,

Nine are carded for the Tamahere Stakes and Flying Prince, who won at Avondale, has pride of place. He has easily the best credentials. Love Call is the only other one engaged who has had a race, and this pair will carry most money. The favourite will be, FLYING PRINCE. The Chief Event. Eleven are engaged in the Waikato Cup, the principal event of the day. Te Kara finished- third in the Avondale Cup, and with 9.2 will have friends. Catkin ran a good.' jace in the King Edward Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, St Ellerslie last week, dead-heating for second place with Star Stranger, a head behind Goshawk. Valkon will also carry some support, for he was third in the Marangai Handicap at "Wanganui, fourth in the Higgie Handicap on the same course, fourth in the Avondale Cup and fourth in the King Edward Handicap at Ellerslie." The only time he has not weighed in in his last five starts was when he was left at the post in the Mitchelson Cup, so that he has been knocking at the door. Corinax had hi 3 first race this season in the Liverpool Handicap at Ellerslie last week, and .showed up for a while. He goes best on a firm track, and if weather conditions are not likely to be favourable, he will not be a starter. However, if he does face the barrier he should run well. Desert Glow was second in the Mitchelson Cup, but failed in the King Edward Handicap. Mint Leaf was fifth in the King Edward Handicap, after having run second in the Plumpton Handicap at Avondale. He should run a good race. Of the others, Queen Arch, Papatu and Tidal, who was finishing on well at the end of the King Edward Handicap, may have most friends. The favourite division will probably be

CATKIN" VALKON" TE KARA. Ciaudelanda High weight Handicap. Te Koroke is top of the acceptors for the Claudelands Higliweight Handicap, and on his running this season he should be hard to beat. At Wanganui he was second in the Seafield Handicap, seven furlongs, to Partaga, and occupied a similar position to Royal Game in the Higgie Handicap, one 'mile and a-quar-tcr. At the Avondale meeting he was third and second respectively in a couple of seven furlong races. Golden Krist won over seven furlongs at the same fixture. Waltzer is a useful sort over a mile, as is Mervette, who would only have to be at her best to have a good chance. Of the others, Tinopono, Schorr, and Wenday may have most support. The public may entrust most money to TE KOROKE

GOLDEN KRIST MERVETTE. The Clarkin Handicap. Only eight are carded for the Clarkin Handicap, and they are a very moderate lot. Respirator has little to commend him recently, while Loveband deadheated in a nine-furlong race at Hawke's Bay two seasons ago, and won a mile event at the same meeting. She was nlso second in a mile race at Napier Park. Loveband did not start last season. Oscar was placed on four occasions last season. He was second to Miss New Zealand over six furlongs at the la-t Waikato autumn meeting, and wa§ third to Miss New Zealand and Billikins in a division of the Jervois Handicap at tlie Auckland winter meeting. He was al-o third to Marble King and Modest Boy in the Fitzrov Handicap at the same meeting. Kerry Dance scored over trven furlongs at the Avondale autumn meeting, while Komak was second in a race and third in a mile at the last Avondale fixture. The public may fancy OSCAR LOVEBAND KERRY DANCE. The Sprinters. The Cambridge Handicap is the chief nrint event, and a useful field has been

. ?cepted for. Kingfield won the President's Handicap, six furlongs, at the last Waikato meeting, and subsequently

• tored at the Auckland winter meeting, l'opaway has not raced since last March s*"id last season only had a Becond to his lit. Flying Juliet has shown winning

■Hit v recently, and also ran well at the] .\m-kland spring ineeeting without get-| i iil- into the money. Nancy Lee hasl liet-ii coining on during the last few | •veeks. and in her last effort was third

to Pa,ganelli and Benzora in the Epsom Handicap at Ellerslie. Oration won the Shorts Handicap on the first day of the Auckland spring meeting, while Tea Time, Tinokoa, Master Doon, and Whaka King look the most promising of the others. The favourite division may be

NANCY LEE KINGFIELD ORATION. The Concluding Event. The programme will conclude with the Hautapu Handicap, and on recent form the public may go for LADY'S BOY ABBEY QUEEN SPEECHLESS.

A special train will leave Auckland for Te Rapa at 6.50 a.m., stopping at Newmarket and other stations.
