AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL.

The. Auckland City Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. George Baildon) presiding.

Kohimarama CompTaint.—As the outcome of a complaint by residents of Kohimarama that a nuisance was caused by odours from the pumping station at Averill Avenue, Kohimarama, it was decided, following a report made by the city engineer, to takes steps to remedy the matter.

Tamaki Sewerage.—Steps are to be taken, to raise £23,000 balance of a loan, to proceed with sewerage at Polygon Road, Sylvia Road, Cliff Road and Harbour View Road in the Tamaki district.

Mount Eden Reservoir.—lt was decided, to call tenders, returnable on November 8, for the construction of a Mount Eden reservoir, and to erect two cottages at Titirangi for the use of the staff engaged at the Huia filters.

Sailors' Home.—An application for remission of rates on the Sailors' Home, amounting to £406, was refused.

Application Declined.—Following reports by the town clerk and city treasurer, it was decided to decline an application from the Baptist Union for remission' of rates on a property at Remuera, on the ground that the building there was not a school within the meaning of the Rating Act. Flooding of Flats.—The Works Committee was asked to report on a letter from the Tamaki Women's Progressive League, stating that the flat areas at St. Helier's and Kohimarama were flooded during the winter months. Unemployment Relief Loan.—On the suggestion of the Local Government Loans Board it was decided to reduce the application for a loan of £20,000 for the relief of unemployment to one for a loan of £10,000.

Legal Expenses.—A report was supplied by the Finance Committee that the average amount for legal expenses for the past five years was £1779 a year. Late Mr. Brinsden. —Feeling reference to the death of the late Mr. F. W. H. Brinsden was made by the Mayor (Mr. G. Baildon), who said that he had been associated with Mr. Brinsden for many years in private and public life. His death was a big loss to the community. The council passed a vote of sympathy to Mrs. Brinsden and family, also placing on record appreciation of Mr. Brinsden'a long and valuable services as a councillor.
