FORGET THE WAR.
Captured German Guns And Tanks May Be Abolished. MOVEMENT IN BRITAIN. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) LONDON, September 9. The desire of the people of England to forget the Great War is becoming apparent in a new sphere. Several local bodies recently have ordered the removal or destruction of captured German guns and tanks, which up to a year ago were proudly exhibited in parks or elsewhere. The Mayor of Southwark is at present pushing the campaign and is seeking the views of his brother Mayors throughout London about the removal of these trophies.
The "Daily Express" urges the immediate scrapping of the unlovely instruments of war which litter England's parks, parades and seaside promenades. The paper says these grim, hideous, and inhuman exhibits speak only of war and ruthless slaughter. As trophies of victory they are valueless and they cause pain to those who are trying to forget realities. They are keeping alive the war idea while sane peoples are striving desperately to ensure peace.
