SCHOONER OVERDUE.
BOUND FOB ADELAIDE. FOR INTERCOLONIAL SERVICE. Grave anxiety is felt for the safety of the auxiliary four-masted schooner Fides, which is now over 120 days oat from Balboa on the voyage to Adelaide. It is almost twleve months since the little vessel—she is only 430 tons netleft Gothenburg laden with Baltie pins for the South Australian port. She left Gothenburg on August 31, 1927, and it took almost four months for her to reach Para. Here she was delayed owing to engine trouble until March 18. Leaving the Brazilian port on that date, the Fides was next reported as passing Balboa on April 17, and since then she has not been spoken. It certainly seems as if the engines have given further trouble, and the drag of her propeller would reduce her speed under sail. It was stated that when the vessel had completed discharge she would be used in the intercolonial trade.
