REMITS CARRIED.
FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASg.
LOCAL FRANCHISE ANOMALY.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Dominion Conference of tl», Farmers' Union carried remits that preferential railway freights on imported goods be removed: that precautions against font and mouth disease should not be relaxed in any way at all; and resolved that the Government be aeked to rectify an anomaly in franchise for the election of harbour, hospital and power board representatives, by extending full country franchise to rnr»l voters. A protest was entered against tie burden of hospital and charitable ii£ rates, and the Government is to be requested to provide a larger subsidy or find such expenses out of national funda. First thing this morning the Conference passed a resolution of confidence in Mr. W. J. Poison (president). In view of attacks in a section of the Press with regard to daylight saving the Conference decided to send at once a strong letter to the Right Hon. J. G. Coates, objecting to it, and urging it be not passed into law again.
