POWER IN NEW ZEALAND.
ENORMOUS CAPITAL INVESTED REVENUE £3,000,000 A YEAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON", this day. The sixth conference of Power Boards was opened by the Premier to-day. Mr. Nash, M.P., presided. Mr. C'oates commended the gathering on a small agenda paper, which seemed to foreshadow lack JT troublesome problems. There had ab>avs been close cooperation between the supply authorities and the departments of State. He quoted statistics showing the tremendous growth of power production. The capital invested in the supply authorities and the generating stations had increased from £1,500,000 in 1918 to £18,900,000 in 1927, and from 54,900 consumers to 228,345. The revenue in 1927 was approximately £3,000,000. The Government's policy was to undertake to supply electricity to all who would guarantee to take power. The development of power in New Zealand, said Mr. C'oates, read like a romance, and was brightening the lives of people throughout the Dominion. The conference carried a remit asking that the provision for the establishment of depreciation funds should be modified, so as to be less crippling to the finances [of younger boards.
