UNEMPLOYED EXODUS.
TREK TO KING COUNTRY. LARGE NUMBER ABSORBED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE KUITI, Tuesday. By the end of the present week about 240 out of the 300 unemployed who were scheduled to arrive here during the month of July under the Public Works employment scheme, will have arrived, and will be engaged on various road works. A further draft of 30 arrived yesterday and will be engaged in formation work on the Hangatiki-Otorohanga section of the main highway. These men are now in camp at Hangatiki. Those at present employed in various work in the territory comprise 70 at Mahoenui (engaged in access road work). •26 at Mangatea (access roads), and 20 at the Mangapeehi-Poro-o-tarao (general formation). By Friday a further draft of 60 will arrive and be allocated to various other access roads.
