I. AUCKLAND TO FORFEIT. WELLINGTON TO MEET CANTERBURY, (By Telegraph—Press Association.) W ELLINGTON, Tuesday. 0 The Council of the New Zealand Foot--3 ball Association met to-night. e The Auckland Association wrote that e its guarantors were opposed to guaranteeing any further liabilities and so the jj committee could not guarantee Canterbury £115 to go to Auckland for the 0 Football Association trophy. Auckland i, was prepared to meet Canterbury or any other challenging province under Brown n Shield rules. Ihe Canterbury Association suggested that the council should order the match il to bo played in Wellington. Canterbury r also asked the lowest cash guarantee t, which Auckland would accept to go to S Christchurch. Canterbury declined to a visit Auckland under Brown Shield rules. ® The secretary reported that all the associations had agreed to play for the £ Football Association trophy under the new rules. It was purely a question of ,j finance. 8 The council agreed that it could not] put the match on in Wellington. It was j moved that the first match be played 9 between Canterbury and Wellington. The decision regarding the first mat-n 1 between Auckland and Canterbury was i rescinded and it was decided that the t first match be played between Wellington i and Canterbury, Wellington to guarantee b the expenses of the Canterbury team. This course was adopted in view of the smaller expense in bringing the Canter- " bury team to Wellington. J t CANTERBURY WANTS A GAME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) j CHRISTCHURCH, this day. ; At a meeting of the Canterbury Football Association it was decided to write to 1 Auckland Association asking them to play i at Wellington on August 11. Failing Auck- } land's acceptance, Canterbury would play Wellington for the English F. A. trophy.
