Mr. Ford also stated that the reason for diverting buses via Grafton Road is on account of the regulation which prohibits vehicles turning to the light at the intersection of Grafton Bridge and Symonds Street at certain hours during the day. Loans. —On tbe recommendation of the finance committee it was decided to submit to the ratepayers a proposal that the remaining credit balance of £4600 in the quarry loan account be transferred for the purpose of the erection of municipal offices, the cost of the building and furnishing of the same not to exceed the amount in hand. The engineer is to proceed with the preparation of the plans and estimates of the sanitary and stormwater sewerage scheme of the western area. Expenditure Returns. —The clerk and engineer reported that at no time will the engineers costing records coincide in value with the statements submitted by the clerk for the same period, the chief reason being that materials purchased by the engineer's department are charged up in the cost accounts against each individual job as the invoices come to hand and are checked, whereas these payments do not appear in the clerk's returns until after the cheques are issued. In the quarter ended June 30, the clerk's disbursements cover also amounts incurred in March of the past financial year. Unsafe Foundation.—The engineer advised that the application for the right to erect a dinghy shed on the foreshore of the Manukau Harbour should be refused, as it would create a precedent for further requests, which should not be entertained, as the country being of an unstable and treacherous nature might cause slips. The report was adopted. Tenders.—The tender of Mr. €. James of £29 was accepted for painting the board's office, inside and out. Finance. —The general fund is in debt £4473.
