AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET.

TRANSACTIONS ON 'CHANGE. Better business was done at the opening call this morning. Sales of New Zealand Insurance were made at £2 2/6, and South British changed hands at £3 0/3. A sale was also made of New Zealand Farmers' Fertiliser at £4 5/, which is an advance upon the previous buying offer. Commercial Bank, ordinary issue, sold yesterday afternoon at £1 10/, and to-day IS,'9 was offered for the contributing issue, an advance of threepence. National Bank of Australasia, contributing shares, were placed this morning at £0 5/6, and Bank of New Zcalands had business at the first call at £3. Newton King, preference shares, eased to-day, sellers quoting 0,6. Inquiry set in for Howard Smith shares at £i 7/6, but there were no sellers. Kaiapoi Woollen, ordinary shares, iirmcd a little, being now wanted at 10/3. Buyers came in to-day for L. R. Eady, ordinary shares, at £1 3-/, and for Whitcombe and Tombs at £3 10/, but no sellers quoted of either line. Busiirese was done in Wilsons Cement at £1 18/6, and in Auckland Gas at £1 3/2. Auckland Harbour 5Vs per cent debentures, were placed at the third call yesterday at £99 10/, and buyers still offer 5/ under that rate. Auckland City, 5/2 pei' cent debentures, are also wanted 5// ", P er cent Waj- Loan (1939) could be placed at £98 12/6, and the same rate is offered for the ins"iii>rd issue.
