THE BIG FIGHT.

BROADCAST NEXT FRIDAY.

LISTEN-IN AT TWO O'CLOCK,

LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS,

The radio broadcast of the big fight at New York on Thursday evening (Friday afternoon by New Zealand time), is arousing great interest amongst wireless enthusiasts in Auckland and district.

Hecney and Tunncy are due to enter the ring at 9 p.m., but preliminary proceedings will probably occupy half an hour. Half-past nine in New York is two o'clock on Friday in this country — an hour which, if not as convenient as the early evening, is still much preferable to an "all-night sitting." The four New Zealand main stations will attempt to rebroadcast the story from the ringside, and at least three separate shortwave stations will be in use. Listenersin will be able to choose the transmission which gives beet results.

A "Star" reporter learner to-day that there has been no marked increase lately in applications for wireless licenses, but renewals are being asked for in very satisfactory numbers. The radio year, if such a term may be used, began on April 1, and the yearly license expires 011 March 31 next. The cost is 30/. Temporary licenses for three months are issued, but save in exceptional cases they cannot be renewed, and the full license must then be taken out. The| exceptions tre in the case of c.ipples. school children, and the unemployed, and the Department requires to be satisfied as to the genuineness of the applications.
