SPECTACULAR BLAZE.
PAINT FACTORY BURNS.
TWO FIREMEN INJURED.
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. One of the most spectacular fires seen in Wellington for some time illuminated the city and the surrounding hills shortly after two o'clock this morning. The blaze was in the paint factory of Bergen, Lewis and Sons (Aust.), Ltd., a three-storeyed brick building behind that of Hope, Gibbons, Ltd., in Dixon Street, and owned by Hope, Gibbons. The whole central brigade turned out, as well as units from Thorndon, Constable Street, Brooklyn and Miramar. Two firemen, J. Wright and J. Plrilp, had their faces and hands severely burned, and several others were singed before the flames were controlled. The injured men were sent to hospital and will probably be there several days. Despite the apparent severity of the fire, when daylight came it was found that the damage was not as great as it was feared. The top floor, on which were offices and stores for paint, varnishes and oils, and the roof were completely destroyed. Damage was done on other floors bv water.
