SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The Women's National Reserve, who have for some years held an annual reunion of the mothers, wives, and widows of soldiers and sailors, at which the society entertains them to afternoon tea and a social gathering, intend doing the same this year, and the reunion will take place next week in the Y.W.C.A. Hall.

The Huntlj Plunket Committee entertained Miss Patrick, director of Plunket nursing, at a luncheon on Tuesday. Discussion took place as to the possibility of a resident nurse in Huntly. Under the auspices of the Jewish Ladies' Benevolent Society, Mrs. A. Follielc, organising secretary, conducted a most successful charity ball at Dixieland on Wednesday evening to raise funds for clothing for all denominations. Mrs. David Nathan, the president, thanked the hundreds of dancers for their attendance. Several cabaret items were daintily rendered by Misses Yvonne Arlen, Wilson, G. McNaughton, and Messrs. Shorter and Follick. To help swell the funds the Misses Betty Wakefield, E. Feldman, Q. and R. McNaughton, and Hayman, dressed in apache costumes, 6&ld cigarettes and sweets. A successful party was given yesterday by Mrs. C. J. Phillips, of Mt. Eden, to bid adieu to Mrs. I. Alexander, who is leaving for Sydney by the Aorangi. Large bowls of irises, daphne, and pink roses adorned the drawing and bridge rooms, the tea table being filled with blue and purple anemones. The hostess received her guests in a heavily beaded navy blue georgette. Mrs. I. Alexander was gowned in mauve ensemble suit, hat to tone. Among the guests were Mrs. C. Macindoe, Mrs. Frank Abbott, Mrs. D. Scott, Mrs. S. Myer (Melbourne), Mrs. Nelson Mitchell, Mrs. Foster, Mrs. J. A. B. Hellaby, Mrs. S. Caro, Mrs. P. Herman, and Mrs. J. Clarkson.
