largest flood for years.

WATER SUBSIDING QUICKLY.

(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)

DARGAVILLE, tliis day.

One of the largest floods experienced for years has spread over Kaihu Valley. Viewed yesterday from a vantage point in Dargaville, the valley was a vast expanse of water, with tences, stop-banks and the railway line visible only in places.

At Tangiteroria on Sunday there was 15th of water at the wharf. On Taylor s Flats, on the Dargaville- Whangarei main highway, the water was 12ft high, and service cars for Whangarei were forced to take the longer route,* via Hoteo Mountain. The railway bus services were expected to resume normal running again to-day, as the excess water drains away quickly down the immense waterway of the Northern Wairoa River.

No loss of stock has been reported, as the farmers were aware of the probability of a flood.
