TE AROHA FLOODS.
LARGE AREA UNDER WATER.
OFFICE AND STORES ISOLATED
RESIDENCES THREATENED.
SHIPPING AFFECTED.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ! TE AROHA, this day. The waters of the Waihou River continued to rise at Te Aroha up till about 5 p.m. yesterday. Most of the Herries' Memorial Park was covered with about three feet of water. Work in the Northern Shipping Company's office was disorganised, as flood water completely surrounded it. The large manure store of the Farmers' Auctioneering Co., adjoining the shipping office, was also surrounded, and fully 100 tons of goods had to be removed to a place of safety. Likewise the stocks held by Wilson, Canham, Ltd., had to be removed. The large timber yards of Wood and Son, which is contiguous the river, and covers an area about 100 yards on the Te Aroha side of the traffic bridge, was mostly covered with water, while there was so much water inside the mill shed as to prevent access. Several residences in Somerstown, near the railway station, wive threatened with, flooding, for the water rose to within a few feet of the back doors. The rain, which ceased to fall in the afternoon, started again last evening.
