MOTORISTS' PETROL.
CANTERBURY CRITICISED
(Received 1.30 p.m.)
SYDNEY, this day. Whether motorists should import their own petrol, as is done by the Canterbury (New Zealand) Automobile Association, is the subject of a discussion in Sydney, but representative men disapprove. They argue that the petrol price is not unreasonable, and that country charges merely have the freight addtd. while the distributors work all hours on every day of the week for the convenience of motorists.
One prominent commercial man, MrBoyd Edkins, declared that the Canterbury experiment would not last long. Another, Mr. Murdoch, M.L.C., expressed the opinion that Canterbury must be getting cheap Mexican spirit.
