Polar Exploration To Combat Droughts. WILKINS' INTENTIONS. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 21. A British United Press message from Oslo states that Captain Wilkins says his object in his polar exploration is less to discover land than to obtain meteorological data for the benefit of the world. For example, he desires to assist Australia in precautions against drought so as to save hundreds of thousands of sheep. This is one of the objects of his South Polar expedition. Signor Marconi had assured him that a short-wave system of weather reports was feasible.
