SUBJECTS FOR LECTURES.

"Lectures have been delivered on the Maori until the subject has been almost exhausted, and during the past year the institute has gone as far afield for a subject as South America," said Mr. J. J. Sullivan at the annual meeting of the Auckland Institute and Museum. ''According to this rear's agenda, India is to be one of the subjects for a lecture. It occurs to me that a lecture or two on the great Imperial race to which we all belong might be given during the year, and I would suggest, for example, that a period of time and people of an age, away from contention, such as old Caledonia, Stonehenge and the Round Towers of Ireland, the life and works of these people about these times, would be subjects of interesting lectures."

The president, Mr. H. E. Vaile, said that Mr. Sullivan's suggestion was an excellent one, but the trouble was to obtain a man who was capable of delivering such lectures. Probably Mr. Sullivan might later be in a position to suggest the names of lecturers to the council.
