SOLD UP.
EX-SERVICEMEN'S HOMES.
STATEMENT BT PRIME
MINISTER.
LENIENT TREATMENT GIVEN,
The fact that a number of unemployed ex-Servicemen had had their homes sold up by the Commissioner of Crown Lands has been brought under the notice of the Prime Minister by the Ex-Service-men's League. The Prime Minister has replied to the League stating that it was difficult to deal with a general statement, but the Minister of Lands was inquiring into the matter. Mr. Coates stated that it was true that several exServicemen had had their properties sold, but in each case exceptioially lenient treatment had been given, and sale was only resorted to when the position became hopeless. Everything possible was done to avoid the Deparment exercising its powers of sale.
The League has now urged the Government to consider granting loans to exServicemen through the Repatriation Department.
The Prime Minister replied saying that the representations made by the League will be considered.
The secretary of the Ex-Servicemen's League (Mr. A. W. Flyger) stated this morning that the League intended to take up the case of any members who were meeting with difficulties in regard to their property.
