WARNINGS TO CHINESE.
HAVE LITTLE EFFECT. HEAVY FIXES THE ONLY REMEDY. 'Warnings to these Chinese have little effect, and the only remedy is to continue the heavy fines," said Mr. W. R- McKean. S.M., at the Police Court this morning, when three Chinese, Won? thing (42), Chang Mun (32) and Wong Kee (47) each pleaded guilty to charges of remaining in the Dominion beyond the time allowed by their tomnorarv permits. The Collector of Customs (Mr. A. V. Penn) said that Wong Ching had overstayed his permit by two years and one month; Chang Mun and Wong Kee being 19 months' overdue. All had been warned previously. Each was fined £20, or two months' 1 imprisonment, and ordered to be I deported.
