ANZAC DAY.

AUCKLAND ARRANGEMENTS. WREATHS ON CENOTAPH. PARADE qf RETURNED MEN.

Arrangements were made to-day for the Anzac Day observance in Auckland. After considering a suggestion that the principal service should be held in the Domain cricket ground, the controlling committee decided that it should be in the Town Hall, as in previous years. Several new features have been adopted. The committee has taken over control of the afternoon service in the Town Hall for secondary schools, and the secretary of the Returned Soldiers' Association (Mr. Sharp) and the town clerk (Mr. J. S. Brigham) have been appointed to confer with Canon James, of St. Mary' 6 Cathedral Church, and Miss E. M. Johnston, headmistress of the Auckland Girls' Grammar School, in arranging the programme. An important decision to-day was in 1 regard to the wreaths to be placed on the cenotaph. Instead of these being removed to Waikmnete for the afternoon ,service out there, they will remain all day aud throughout the night, guarded by" the police, and will be taken to Wai- ' kumete the next day. Last year there were complaints that a start was made to remove wreaths for transport to Waikumete while others were being brought to the cenotaph by private citizens. The decision was made so that this might be avoided.

The order of the serviced will be: 11 a.m., Town Hall, at which the Mayor will preside, and the Governor-General will read the lesson; noon, at the cenotaph; 3 p.m., secondary schools' service in the Town Hall, at which a representative of the R.S.A. will preside; and 3 p.m., service £.t Waikumete, at which the Mayor will preside.

The Governor-General will place the first official wreath on the cenotaph, and he will be followed by the Mayor and representatives of various organisations, which make up a lengthy list and includo the primary schools. The public will have permission to place wreaths on the cenotaph both before and after the ceremony, but not while it is in progress.

The parade of returned soldiers will be arranged and parried out under the supervision of th© Returned Soldiers' Association.
