PROGRESSING BY THEFT.
three boy escapees. RECAPTURED BY POLICE. (By Telegraph —Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The 'three boys who escaped from an institution in Christchurch last Tuesday were recaptutred near Culverden to-day by a constable. Two of the boys were brothers.
Two bicycles were stolen from Kaiapoi on Tuesday, and after the three boys had been seen with the bicycles farther north the [machines were found in a ditch beyond-Waikuku. On Friday morning the house -of Mr, J. Cross, of Waikuku, was and an e!ectric torch, leather belt, and a sheath knife were stolen.
Bjt„ nightfall the bovs were near Saltwater Creek, where they camped for the night in an old house on the farm of Mr. •7. Malthus. The police were informed, but the lads had moved on. Mr. Malthus discovered that a gig, horse, and harness were missing, in addition to gum boots and a quantity of milk. Food was stolen from Mr. J. Parker's house, at Lcithfield, and subsequently articles stolen from Mr. Malthus were found at Leith field. On Saturday the boys were seen driving in the Weka Pass, and yesterday the horse was seen walking home from north of Culveruen. A constable later found the gig and harness north of the Hurnnui Bridge. There was butter and jam in the gig.
