A PATHETIC FIGURE.

I noticed a very pathetic figure in Qoeea Street the other day. I refer to the returned soldier parading the pavement with a placard on his back bearing the words, '"Returned soldier, married, children to keep, solicits work of any description." I have seen service myself, and casting my imagination back just a few short years I can picture this same man (a hero then to the very people who pass hio by now) up to his knees in lilth and slime, and bravely facing hell 011 earth. Whatever for? asks the present generation. Why, s» that you could all continue to hold yoor comfortable positions and enjoy your freedom under the British flag, at the same time denying such men as these the right to their daily bread. Would that I was in a position to help, but unfortunately I myself have had a harf fight to keep the lowliest of jobs. Is thsre 110 justice in this fair little country of onrs? LEST WE FORGET.,
