AFFRAY ON WAIPIATA.
INJURED MAN DOING WEIX. ACCUSED GRANTED BAIL. Angus McKay, the seaman from the s.s. Waipiata, who, it is alleged, was assaulted and struck on the head with a hammer by Angus McLean (31), another seaman from the same vessel, last Friday night, is progressing favourably at the hospital, according to what SubInspector McCarthy said at the Police Court this morning when McLean again appeared on a charge of doing bodily harm to McKay. (
Mr. McCarthy said that the hospital authorities could not yet state when McKay would be fit to discharge.
Accused, for whom Mr. J. J. Sullivan appeared, was remanded for a fortnight, and was allowed out on bail of £50 in the meantime".
