ROTORUA NOTES.

Dr. and Mrs. S. Wallis and family have returned from a short visit to Auckland. Miss A. Holland, of Auckland, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Holland, Carnot Street. Mrs. Davidson and her sister, Miss O'Malley, of Sydney, who have been guests at Waiwera House, have left for Taranaki and Dunedin. Miss Hellaby, of Auckland, is on a visit to Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. J. Allen and Miss M. Allen, who have been staying in Rotorua, have returned to Herne Bay. Miss McGregor, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. Giesen, Hinemaru Street.

At the Peerless Hall on Friday evening a J»ost enjoyable dance and progressive 500 tournament was held under the auspices of the Rotorua branch of the St. John Ambulance Association, and was a decided success, through the untiring efforts of the acting-secretary, Miss K. Carnachan, and the committee. Excellent dance music was played by the Dixieland orchestra, and several novelty dances added to the evening's amusement. The winners of the prizes for the lucky spot dance were Miss Nuttall and Mr. Fehsenfeld, and the Monte Carlo waltz prizes were won by Miss Ellis and Mr. Joyce. Cards were played on the stage, the prizes being won by Mrs. M. Carnachan let, Mrs. Jackson 2nd, and Mrs. Matheson the booby, for the ladies; Mr. Courtny Ist, Mr. Simpson 2nd, and Mr. Smith the booby, prize for the gentlemen. Mr. Courtny very kindly returned his prize to be sold for the association's funds. After a dainty supper had been served, his Worship the Mayor (Mr. T. McDowell), in a brief speech, thanked all those present for their patronage, and appealed to the men specially to join the association. He then called on Mrs. McDowell to present the prizes won at cards and dancing, and the association's medallion to Mr. R. Sparkes; certificates to Mrs. W. Bridle, Mrs. Young, Miss M. Herrick, Miss E. Henderson, Messrs. S. A- Stainton, R. Ewing, T. Middleton, and H. Auberton. Mr. Sparks, on behalf of the association, thanked Mr. and Mrs. McDowell for their presence that evening, and the doctors who had so kindly .come forward and helped with the lectures. The Rotorua Women's Club organised I a most delightful concert at the Government Sanatorium on Friday evening, when there was a large audience of Eatients in the recreation room, which ad been prettily decorated with flowers and greenery for the occasion. The excellent programme opened with a pianoforte duet by Missed M. and AMcKenzie, followed with items by Miss

. Woollams, Miss O. Laudon, recitations; Mrs. C. Clark, Miss T. Giesen, Mr. Phyl Basham and Mr. Laudon, Mr. Hodgson and Miss O. Laudon, nonologues. Each item received an encore the audience insisting on double en; >i vs being given by Mr. Hodgson and Mr. Laudon. At the conclusion of tlid program me a dainty supper was served by members of the committee, and sweets and cigarettes were also given round. Ihe patients thanked the members of the club for the enjoyable evening, and expressed the wish that they would all come again soon. The president of the club, Mrs. W. L. Richards, responded, and it was always a real pleasure to visit them. The evening was brought to a close with community singing and the National Anthem. Miss M. Mclvenzio acted as accompanist.
