Nominations for the Taranaki Trotting Club's meeting close on Tuesday next at 9.30 p.m. Our Patch and Our Nancy, W. Fleming's pair of pacers, were unsighted in their engagements on Thursday. Nellie Parsons ran a second and a third in two starts at Wanganui on Thursday. She is by Neil Dennis, and is in L. F. Birkett's team. Master Cute will be handy when he meets a weak field. He went two fair races on Thursday, but was not quite good enough to get any of the money. Lady Barrington ran a fine race in the Wanganui Cup for a mile and threequarters, but she could not maintain her position from the straight entrance home. Sister Beatrice took on the pacers in the Morton Memorial at Wanganui on Thursday, and was a quiet tip for the race. Any chance she had was gone when she failed to go away right. Rangitero, the six-year-old trotter by Native King, who won at Manawatu, knocked one of his knees slightly before the Wanganui meeting, and was not raced on the opening day. The Abbey, who won In good style at Manawatu, shaped iike a duffer in the Foster Memorial. He was not going kindly in his preliminary, and pave A. E. Adams anything but a comfortable drive.

Direct Torld can be ticked off to win a sprint race early. He has n fine dash of pare, and covered a lot of ground when he ran third on Thursday. He is an aged imported b v Inw.n Todd—Emilie Directum. 7

The Auckland-trained Colonel Thome has disappointed his party so often that they must have given tip hopes long ago of the son of Our Thorpe making a good one. Evidently it was thought the weak fields at Wanganui would suit him, and he was produced in the President's Trot on Thursday. He went easily the best race of hi* career, bein« always handv to Lady Ena, who was out forcing the pace. Not once did Colonel Thorpe put a foot wrong, and in a great finish he was just beaten by a head. Evidently somebody expected bim to go solid, as he went out second favourite, and off a 5.4 mark he went 4.50 4-5 to get £16 of the stake money.

A. Cameron had Gaza and Horoto at A but did not run them the first, day. Gaza did not feed well when brought down, but picked up later. They will race to-day, and then So on to Hawera and the Taranaki meetings.

Ce Advanceur, who went a fine race to get second in the Foster Handicap was previously raced by A. E. Adams, who became disgusted with the failures ot tho son of Advance, and gave him away to his present owner, Mr. C. L. Kits per, of Manaia.

Carberley, who was taken to niii with Colonel Thorpe by C. G. Lee £id not show up at anv part of the Ivirkwood Trot when half a mile had been covered. He has a good style of going, and with the racing he is now getting he should improve.

Twelve months ago at Wanganui the Auekiand-owned Lady Ena was beaten in her first- start, and won later in the day. paying a good price. The daughter of First Voyage repeated the performance on Thursday, but she will find it hard to win again. It is in her favour that she is a fast beginner.

Tho parties connected with Zolock Wood expected him to be in the picture in tlu* mile saddle at Wanganui on rhursday. He had gone 2.22, and off looked rather well in, but if he had a chance he settled it by standing on the mark and taking no part in the race. He is trained by D. Nyhan at Lowei Hutt.
