TEST CRICKET.

JACK MILLS AVAILABLE.

POSSIBLE CHANGE IN N.Z. SIDE

AN AWKWARD POSITION.

After the New Zealand team had jeen selected for the first cricket Test against the Australian team at Eden Park, starting next Saturday, word reached the Auckland representative on the Selection Committee that the difficulty in the way of Jack Mills, the Eden batsman, getting leave to take part in the game had been removed It certainly was late in the day, but the information has been communicated to the other members of the Selection Committee with a view to considering some possibility of rearrangement whereby Mills may be included to strengthen the team. Of course, any such rearrangement is possible only through the courtesy of some other player who has already been notified of selection. It is understood that two alternatives are under consideration— either securing agreement by N. Gallichan, of Palmerston North, to stand dowu, or making a similar arrangement with R. Rowntree, of Auckland, provided, of course, that T. Lowry will consent to keep wickets for the game.

Gallichan expects to be playing in Auckland cricket next. season. He is employed in a Government Department and is under transfer next month to the city. On his all-round form this year he should be a distinct asset to local cricket.
