YOUNG FARMER KILLED.
SLID OFF HAY STACK, j 1 i PIERCED BT PITCHFORK. TRAGEDY AT OPOURIAO. (By Telegraph.—Ottu Correspondent.) [ TANEATUA, this day. j D. M. Thorn, jnr., a young farmer! at Opouriao, slid off a hay stack yesterday evening on to a pitchfork with a broken handle. The fork pierced his abdomen. He was picked up unconscious and was immediately taken to Whakatane Hospital, but he died this morning, without having regained consciousness. Mr. Thom was a highly-respected resident of the district, a returned soldier, ■worshipful master of Lodge Taneatua, No. 220, and a member of the Bay of Plenty Royal Arch Chapter. He leaves a widow and two youna children.
