SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A delightful tea was given on Saturday morning by Sir Walter and Lady stringer, the guests of honour bein» Mr Justice and Mrs. A. Blair. Lady stringer wore a smart gown of Paisley georgette, with a beige hat, bandeau of same colouring and ospreys; Lady LockJiart wore flowered crepe de chine and a hat to tone; Mrs. Blair was in navy lue crepe de chine, blue georgette coat and hat to match; Mrs. J. R. Reed, na vy blue marocain, blue hat; Mrs. F. Fitchett, navy blue georgette, blue silk ift;. Mr. Justice Reed and Mr. Justicc JJiair were also present. * * » .
Many smart bridge parties were given last week-end. Mrs. C. I. Phillips, of Mount Eden, who leaves for Wellington on Wednesday, gave a delightful gathering, and her Saturday evening partv was" beautifully decorated by large bowls of blue hydrangea and mauve flowers. The hostess was in almond green brocade with a wide shaded ostrich feather border. Mrs. R. A. Herman wore black panne velvet and lace; Mrs. F. Spencer, orchid chaminade satin, wide tulle shoulder wrap; Mrs. Green, geranium georgette with wide bands of gold passementerie; Mrs. A. Foster, black chiffon, heavily worked in gold beads; Mrs. Wray, pink panne velvet.
Mrs. J. Cracroft-Wilson, president of the Plunket Society, Christchurch, gave a delightful party as a farewell to Mrs. Chilton, who is leaving Christchurch. In the unavoidable absence of Lady Rhodes, Miss Rose Tabart made the presentation of a framed photograph of Karitane Babv Hospital to. Mrs. Chilton, and in the course of her remarks eulogising the done by Mrs. Chilton during her 20 years on the committee of the Plunket Society, stressed the difficulties of the early pioneering days of the Christchurch branch, when in spite of war conditions £11,000 was collected to establish the Karitane Baby Hospital.
