VALUE OF OIL SHARES.
The holdings of the British Government in the Anglo-Persian Oil Co., which originally cost £5,200,000, are now valued at £23.600,000. It is worth recalling to mind that negotiations for the sale of the Government's oil shares had nearly reached finalitj*, and it was only the intervention of Mr. Mac Donald on the eve of an election that prevented the sale being completed.
