NOTES ON THE RACING.
MISS STOCKLEY PACED BY
SOUTHERNER,
AUCKLAND WATER POLO TEAM
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")
DUNEDIX, Friday. In the 50yds ladies' invitation scratch race, Miss Magee (Auckland), althoupr she got a bad dive, led from start to finish and never looked like getting beaten. Miss Stockley did not starf, but could never have won had she done so. In the .50yds men's invitation scratch race Dowsett, getting the" best of the start, won by two feet from Cameron, Fairgray and Enwright wore • next, a touch away. In the Flying Squadron (N.Z. championship) Auckland finished last. On the figures they liad no chance before the race started, and were ill advised to risk their goodrecord of the past. The fact that Miss Stockley was again paced in her exhibition of the backstroke by Mooreliotise, of Christchurch, gives room for a lot of talk, considering Fairgray, of Auckland, was available. The Auckland manager should not have allowed the same. Miss Pidgeon swam well and improved on anything she has shown previously, being ably paced by Sylow (Auckland), as there were no other starters. Auckland drew with Wellington in the water polo. Farrell and Meikle each scoring. Auckland improved considerably in the water polo, and beat Otago by 9 to nil (Enwright 4 goals, Kenny 2, Farrel 1, Hedges 2). Fairgray easily outclassed the other goalkeepers at the meetingIn the 100 yds boys' broaetstroke, J. Magee (Auckland) swam strongly from the start, keeping up with Cameron for two laps, but tired in the last lap, when Cameron Bprinted to win by five yards.
