LINDSAY OUTSTANDING

DUNEDIN, Friday

Mainly through the performances of Lindsay, Canterbury look the Yaldhurst Shield at the national swimming championship contests which ended this evening. Canterbury scored 50 points, Otago b<*ng runners-up with 29 points. Auckland, who held the shield, were third with 28 points. The Wnr Memorial Shield was taken by Wel.'iigton with a total of 5 points.

Lindsay won the 440 yds championship easily by 25yds in the record time of 5m 28 l-as. Miss K. Miller covered the same distance in 6m 9 2-ss, 32s under the previous record. The only other starter, Miss D. Grant (Auckland), was more than a lap behind when the winner touched. Cameron (Wellington) had no difficulty in the 100 yds intermediate breaststroke event. Miss Pidgeon whs the only competitor in the 220 yds ladies' breaststroke championship and succeeded in lowering the existing record by 4 4-ss. R. Calder had no difficulty in retaining his diving title, and another Otago man, IT. E. Walker, was runner-up. Miss Hood retained her title by a substantial margin on points.
