ASHURST MEETING.

PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW

THE FIELDS REVIEWED,

The annual meeting of the AshhurstPohangina Racing Club will be held' to-morrow, and with the excellent fields engaged there should be some excellent racing. THE OPENING EVENTFifteen are engaged in the Hack Hurdles, with which the programme opens, and Vexatious, who heads the list, | will not be without friends. She was second at Levin on Saturday, and the race should do her good. Revel has proved himself a good hurdler, though he has not won for some time past. Braeman annexed the Greenmeadows Hack Hurdles at Napier Park recently. Chrissarto and Lombardo have shown form this season, while among the others Lady Faye, Mister Gamp (who won at Levin) and Lady Acre may be the best. Probably most money will go on VEXATIOUS MISTER GAMP LADY ACRE THE MAIDEN STAKES. A large field is engaged in the Maiden Stakes. Recent form will perhaps be taken as a guide, and if so, the favourite division may be SHINING STAR BROADACRE ABISOGNE THE SPRINTERS. Bonogne, with 9.2, has pride of place in the Poliangina Handicap, and he has recent form to commend him, for he won at Waverley last month. Lipsol has shown winning ability this season, scoring on three occasions and being placed on a couple of others. Lausanne seems to race in patches, but there is no doubt that he has a good deal of pace when in the mood. At Riccarton he was fourth in the Stewards' Handicap, and at Levin last Saturday occupied a similar position in a much weaker field. Mireusonta has been going along well this season and on Saturday annexed a race at Levin. He has only got to reproduce .that form to be hard to dispose of. Arrow Lad and Huikai are useful sprinters, particularly the latter. Of the others Epistle, Deluge and Royal Land may be the best. Probably when the iriachine closes most investments will be on MIREUSONTA LIPSOL HUIKAI THE SIBERIA HANDICAP.

A large field is, accepted for in the Siberia Hack Handicap. Vast Acre won the Jackson Hack Memorial Stakes, five furlongs, at Waverley, while Imitation won two six-furlong events p.t Danuevirke in September and has'been placed on three • occasions since then. Arch Arrow has also raced prominently this season. The Baffler- made nojrace of the' Maiden Stake* at Marton • last September, winning by three lengths, while he has run second on one occasion since then. Silver Tray stowed good form last season, while Miss Pat and Bissau won at the Levin meeting. Of the other& Carrigallen, Maui and Expense may be the best. Probably the public may give most support to " ' MISS PAT IMITATION • BISSAC • ■ ■

THE BIG EVENT. The chief event is the Ashhurst Cup, one mile and a-quarter Royal Damon has proved himself a good horse up to a mile, and there is no reason why he should not see out the extra two furongs. Royal Game has been most consistent for months past, and with 8.11 he will be in demand. Rowley showed up at Riccarton, while Rouex can go a good mile and a-quarter. Novar would only need to be at his best to have a great chance with 7.11. Waicullus and Teri may be most favoured of the others. Probably the public will support „ I ROYAL GAME ROWLEY I WAICULLUS I THE KOMAKO HANDICAP.

There is another large field in the Koinako aHndicap. Irritation is in this event as well as in the Siberia Handicap, and if reserved for this may have friends. Rising Star was useful last season, winning on four occasions. Kalos raced well at the Grand National meeting'and also at the New Zealand Cup meeting, and he should be hard to dispose of. Kilmoyler won the Rimutaka Handicap, seven furlongs, at Wellington .last month, while Bent, who has only raced once this season, ran unplaced. However, last season she won on one occasion and was placed on half a dozezn others. Tanagra has raced most consistently this season, winning once and being in the money in three other races out of five starts. Twink was second at Levin last Saturday and Archon third. The latter scored at the Waverley meeting. Atereria and Maui may perh&ps be most fancied of the others. Probably when the betting ceases the favourite division will be

KALOS KILMOYLER TANAGRA RUAMAI HANDICAP. Bonogne, who is in the Pohangina Handicap, also claims an engagement in the Ruamai Handicap. Queen's Choice is a good horse when properly wound up, and already he has been in the money twice this season. Lipsol, Epistle, Stan-, dard and Royal Land are engaged in this event as well as in the Pohangina Handicap. If Lipsol and Royal Land are reserved they should be in request. Of the others Horomea and Road Hog may be best fancied. Probably the public will give most support to QUEEN'S CHOICE HOROMEA ROYAL LAND THE CONCLUDING EVENT.

The programme will conclude with the Manftwatu Gorge Handicap. Wahderlust has good form to hi'a credit this season, while Essential and H*ona have won this season. Probably £he favourite division will be

NOTES FROM THE SOUTH,

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

—upcvitti IU oiai. ; WELLINGTON, this day.

The nominations and acceptances received by the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club for its annual meeting on Wednesday, constitute a,'record for the club, and after the acceptances had been posted it was found necessary to divide the Maiden Race and the Siberia Hack. At Levin on Saturday the : president of .the, Ashhurst Club (Mr. R. McDonald) -stated thpt notice of a sufficient' number' of ffcratchings had been received in the' Maiden to obviate a division, and ,it' will, therefore, be run as onp race. A division appeared inevitable,: however, in the Siberia Handicap. t '

The track is in splendid order, fields are all very large, and on this small course good beginners will be at a distinct advantage. Braeman, Bevel and Mister Gamp may be the best in the Hurdles. Vexatious gets too far back in the early stages of her races to be a good proposition at Ashhurst,

The round course will again suit Mircusonta in the Pohangina Handicap, and he is likely to run well, for ths extra weight will not trouble him. Arrow Lad, Huikai, Deluge and Epistle must all be considered, and of these Arrow Lad and Huikai may prove the most troublesome.

The Siberia Hack Handicap has been divided. Miss Pat and Vast Acre look likely sorts in the first division, and in the second Powhiri and Maui should go well. Maui was unlucky at Levin, where Powhiri showed up prominently.

On form Rowley, Waicullus, Teri and Anolo appears the picks of the Ashhurst Cup. Rowley is such a slow beginner that he may never get a look in on a small course like Ashhurst, and for that reason the chances of the other trio are preferred, as they all begin well and obtain good positions early in the race.

Lin Arlington is shaping like a return to form, and should be prominent in the Komako Handicap, in which Twink and Archon are likely to be dangerous.. If Episfle be reserved for the Raumai Handicap she should go well on her recent form. Lipsol and Road Hog may show up.

Excess, Henna and Twink arc a likely trio in the Gorge Handicap.
