RECEPTION AT ELLERSLIE.

RIGHT HON. AND MRS. AMERY

ENTERTAINED

The Kiosk at Ellerslie was gay with flowers yesterday afternoon for the reception to the Right Hon. and Mrs. Amery, arranged by the Victoria League, the Navy League, the British Colonial Institute and the Overseas League, to bid them welcome to Auckland. The room was filled with long tables on which were beautiful vases of pink sweet peas, and large masses of pale mauve Japanese iris, while in the centre of each table §tood a large palm. Across the end of the room and facing the entrance was the official table, also beautifully decorated with flowers and behind the guests of honour hung a large "A," made from deep scarlet roses, placcd so that when the' distinguished guest stood up to speak it framed his figure. The guests were received at the entrance by Miss Mowbray, who was wearing navy morocain with bands and collar and cuffs of handsome Chinese embroidery in gold and .purple, and .a large navy, hat with plume, and Mrs. John Alexander in amber coloured velvet worn uuder fawn wrap with fawn crinoline hat trimmed with velvet bow. The Hon. Mr. Amery was accompanied by Mrs. Amery in a navy silk marocain coat worn over white crepe de chine, spotted in black. Her wrap had a summer fur collar aud her hat was large brimmed with a pleated crown. Mrs. Coates, who accompanied the Prime

Minister, was in a delicate shade of beigo georgette with beige crinoline hat with velvet bow. Mrs. J. W. Campbell was in black striped Ottoman silk wrap and grey silk with large hat. At the entrance Mrs. Amery was presented by Miss Mowbray with a beautiful bouquet of pale pink rosebuds massed with palest blue delphiniums and asparagus ferns. I The guests were, then escorted to the official table, where speeches of welcome were made by Miss Mowbray, on behalf of the Victoria League, of which Mr. and Mrs. Amery' are interested members. Miss Mowbray explained the working of the league and what it was trying to accomplish for the furthering of the interests of the Empire.

Mr. John Alexander spoke on behalf of the Navy League, and welcomed the distinguished guests to Auckland, as well as the Prime Minister and Sir Francis Bell.

Professor Worley spoke on behalf of | the British and Coionial Institute, in the absence of Mr. Bankart, who was prevented from being present, Mr. de Guerrier on behalf of the Overseas League, and Mr. Cutten on behalf of the League of Nations tlnion.
