ANGLICAN SYNOD.
PROPOSALS , TO CONSIDER,
AT MEETING THIS MONTH.
The Auckland Diocesan Synod is to meet on October 20.
The first business will be the discussion in committee of the Standing Committee's report and accounts. A bill setting aside certain funds, which are available for the purpose of providing pensions for the Bishops of Auckland and their widows, will be submitted by the General Trust Board. Another bill aims at creating a reserve fund and placing investments of the board on a sounder basis. A motion is also being brought forward by the board asking for Synod's approval of a bill which has already been approved by a commission set up by the Standing Committee of General Synod and is to be brought before the General Synod, the object of which is to define clearly the diocesan nature of the trust properties in Auckland set aside for the bishop's house and cathedral.
A motion recommending an alteration with respect to advances of stipend is to be brought forward for fconsideration by the Standing Committee. The alteration advocated is not in the direction of doing away with the advances of stipend, but to make advances only in such cases where the circumstances are shown to justify it.
A provision for accident insurance of clergy is another matter that will receive consideration.
The proposed revision of the diocesan statutes will not be considered as previously arranged as General Synod in April is going to revise the whole of the canons.
