VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB,

AXXUAL PRIZE .NIGHT.

There was a big attendance of members and friends of the Victoria Cruising Club last evening at Scots llall, Symonds, Street, on the occasion of this club's 23rtl annual presentation of prizes won during the past yachting season. The gathering took the form of a social ai\d dance, the prizes being distributed during an interval by the club's patron, Mr. Ernest 11. Davis. They made a line show, consisting of seven silver cups, a memorial shield, and n number of articles useful both atloat and ashore, totalling in value over £300. In addition, cash prizes won t.t the club's regatta were p;(id out lo the amount yf £110, . Before handing the prizes to the fortunate skippers, Mr. Davis congratulated the officers of the club ,011 the success of the past season, and said they need have 110 fear of boat sailing dying out on the Waitemata while dubs like the Victoria fostered the sport by providing such 1 good prizes, added to which our natural advantages would ever ensure new recruits to enjoy the pastime of yachting on the Waitenia til and llauraki Gulf, in his opinion, second to none in the world. The following were the principal prizewinneis: Mackny Memorial and Surl'dale Shields, Kokiri; Casey Cup, Venus; Boonst'rii Memorial Cup, Ngaio; Burns Cup, Joan; Rao Cup, Surprise ; Speight Cup, for first across line in most races, Spray: aggregate cups for. most points, 20ft and over, Winifred; under -'Oft, Alerte; launches, Pal o' Mine. The highest prize-winners in each class were as follow Keel class: Alcxa and Loloma, two firsts; Queenie, one first. 2(>footers: Starlight and .Mistletoe, two firsts; CeloXj Spray and Why Not, one first, 22-I'ooters: Kokiri, three firsts; Walnia, Ngarn, Venus, Lucille and ltakoa, one first. 20-footers: Winifred, four tirsts. V class: Milllcent, two firsts; Drone, Solace, Doris, Surprise, and Leveret, one lirsf. M class: Ma tare re, two firsts; Mancue, Mawhiti. Maroro and Mollie, one lirst. S class: Swlftsure and Namn, two firsts; Tulip, Lancia and Atangatai, one lirst. T class: Xgaio, two firsts; Rona, Joan, Ilapuka, Meteor and Kismet, one lirst. X class: Cupid, Alerle, and Sea Gnome, two firsts; Sea King, one lirst. Launches: Pal o' Mine and Mnntirero, two tirsts; Plivliis, Romance 11., and Young Zealandiii, one first; Kowliai, special prize. All the local and Mauukau yacht and sailing clubs were represented, and complimented the president (Mr. W. L. Casey), the Commodore (Mr. Clias. Ilogan), and Mr. Jas. McGehan on the success of the evening. Music was provided by the Kit Kat Orchestra.
