NO IMPROVEMENT. DISTRESS IN" WELLINGTON". (By Telegraph.—Press Associat ion.) AY ELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Mayor of Wellington, Mr. (i. A. T'oup, said to-day that the unemployment situation in Wellington was showing no improvement.

At a public meeting to-night it was decided to invite subscriptions from residents and to ask firms to arrange with their employees for certain deductions in wages, to go toward unemployed funds, the amount subscribed to be' spent on city works.

The Mayor said an application had been made for sanction to borrow a further, £26,000. Hhe Wellington Football Association had decided to give all the proceeds of matches at Basin Reserve on Saturday to the unemployment fund, and the associated bands had ajrecd to assist. A street collection day wna to be held on Friday, and professional musicians were also to give a concert to assist the funds. It -was suggested that ■the churches take a retiring collection next Sunday for the same purpose
