The monthly meeting of the board o: directors was held yesterday, with Mrs C. W. Garrard (president) in the chair The devotional period at the com mencement of the meeting was con ducted by the Rev. Mowbray Finnis During the month a membership cam paign for the increase of the womei membership had been successfully con ducted by team work and drawing-roon meetings. The laying of the foundation stone of the new hostel will take plact on June 22, when the Hon. George Fowlds will conduct the ceremony. Immediatelj following this will be an "At Home" foi women members, old and new, and s welcome to the new members. Plans foi the World Fellowship Fair, to be helc nest month, are well in hand. It wat reported that the Y.W.C.A. secretary ir China, Miss Ella MacNeil (Mrs. Harolc Anderson) would visit Auckland it I August. A world fellowship Sunday ser | vice has been planned for June 26. Mis: Jean Begg (general secretary) reported on the progress of the work in the gir citizens, senior, and health and recrea tion departments. The senior clubs hat held their first clubs assembly, whei nearly two hundred girls had met t< pledge their united loyalty to the pur pose of the association. The hostel girli recently held a debate on "Prohibitioi versus Continuance." Miss Begg drev attention to the amount of distress an< unemployment in the city amongs women and to the numbers that wer< turning to the Association for advici and help. It was resolved to send the following remit to the National Counci of Women: "That a protest against ex cessive speeding in the city precincts b< recorded." Mrs. Whitley had beei granted six months' leave of absence from the board of directors owing to ill health. During the month an America! visitor was welcomed, Mrs. Willoughbj Rodman, commissioner of recreation a' Los Angeles, who was keenly intereste< in the work of the Y.M.C.A. in her owi country, and was delighted to hav< an opportunity to see the work bein< done by the Association in this country During the month various groups of ladies have visited the Association while at work of the girls in the evening, and • have been surprised at the scene of ■ animation and activity to which they were introduced.
