MANUKAU COUNTY.
WORKS IN VIEW. At the meeting of the Manukau County Council this morning the chairman, Mr. F. M. Waters presiding, the council's inspector, Mr. C. N. Clark, stated that in six ridings building permits covering a total value of £3950 had been issued since last meeting. Of the amount £2069 applied to the Mangere Riding and £1040 to Papatoetoe, these being the two ridings to run into four figures. In a lengthy report covering the progress of work done, or being carried out in the different ridings, the engineer, Mr. J. R. Page, said that work on Buckland Road (bitumen penetration and sealing) was nearing completion, but difficulty had been met with spongy foundation at one spot, which might render it necessary for the contractors to lift and relay a short length. Generally the work appeared to be very satisfactory to date. In all ridings various works were proceeding well, and work in view included the reconstruction of Glenora Road at Takanini, the repairing of the road from Alfriston Post Office to the Papakura stream Bridge, the construction of a kerb and footpath on the Great South Road, between Cornwall Road and the Papatoetoe Town District boundary, j
