SOCCER GAMES.

A NAVAL VICTORY. SHORE STILL ON TOP. TRAMWAYS BEATEN AGAIN. In spite of the unfavourable conditions for Boccer on Saturday afternoon, some very stirring games were witnessed. On Blandford Park Thistle were altogether too strong for Y.M.C.A., and romped home by the substantial margin of half a dozen goals. The following match between Tramways and Shore was a real thrilling encounter from start to finish, and ended in a win for the Devonport side by the odd goal in five, scored in the last few minutes of the game. On the Devonport Dock ground Navy met Northcote, who were minus one player all the game. The sailori were in rampant form and gained their first points in the senior competition by the convincing margin of 8 to 2. At Onehunga, Ponsonby engaged the local eide and a good game resulted, the verdict ultimately resting with the strong going City club.

Bungling by Tramways, defence let Jay in and his parting shot gave Tucker no chance to save. Shore 2, Tramways 0. The corporation immediately replied and a long shot by McElligott was cleverly deflected by Spencer past Lipscombe. Shore 2, Tramways 1. Matters livened up when Tramways pressed hard in the second half, and what seemed like a penalty for hands against Gerrard was missed, but Colebourne came to the rescue and tn a moment Shore were on the offensive. Nothing happenec], however, and a short time afterwards Simpson was carried off injured. Bradshaw was also off for a short time but returned. In a raid by Tramways the ball came out to Dodds who dropped a nice shot out of Lipscombe's reach as •Simpson, took up his position.—2 all. Both goals were seriously tested in turn. In the closing minutes, Shore broke away, and Jay tried a shot which Tucker safely held, and a moment later Shore's charge was under 6iege again. Colebourne relieved, and, with a few minutes to go, mistakes by Tramways' defence let Jay fasten on to a long kick from Baxter, and Tucker failed to hold the inside left's shot. Whitley rushing in added the finishing touches. North Shore 3 Tramways ;>

HONTON IN FORM.

Northcote had only ten men at the dock, and -were easily dfit'eated by the Navy, 8 2. From the outset the players found the slippery ground and the plentiful pools great handicaps, and promising movements often ended humorously, with players sliding or having an impromptu bath, tollowing a pretty run on the lett, tlio ball came across to Williams, and he shot hard for goal. The ball struck Flail and cannoned off him out of Eaeock's reai-li into tho net. After twenty minutes play, following a save from Darbey the Navy attacked strongly, and Honton tricking two opponents shot hard for goal L.von slipped back in punching and the bull struck the top net before coming out. To make doubly sure, Black, following in fast, put it into the net. It was how-evf-r a goal before he got there. Honton within five minutes netted other two goals, thus performing the hat trirk. In both cases he received from the right wing He was undoubtedly iu great form, and missed no chances. Within a minute of the restart, lulls put the Navy further ahead with a groat drive, and Honton five nnnutes later put into the net, but was offside. The Navy centre forward, howevtr, a minute later, scored a fifth Honton ]>iu the Navy six up after i.iles had tested Lyon. A neat touch of the foot again did the trick. Meynell was injured and was carried off. Northcote then did better and from a penalty from a charge in the back Hibbert scored for them. Miles added a seventh uud Kivers an eighth goal for the Navy. THISTLE WIN EASILY,

The footing was impossible, and numerous pools of water made passing almost impracticable when Thistle defeated Y.M.C.A., who started three men short, by 6—o. Thistle, after ten minutes, opened the scoring through Dickson with a shot from 25 yards out which rebounded off the post into the net. Dunsmore forced a corner on the right, which Cumming placed to perfection. Carter was well up amongst the forwards and he added a neat goal. Thistle 2, Y.M.C.A. 0. Y.M.C.A. opened the second half with a raid on Zoull and forced a corner which was cleared. After some midfield play Thistle attacked, and Stewart forced his way through Y.M. defence till he sent the ball past Paton into the net The same player added a fourth goal with a lovely left-foot drive from a centre by Dunsmore. Thistle 4, Y.M. 0. Christie forced matters up towards Paton and carried play along with Hislop. Dick failed to stop their progress, and the centre-half slipped to Stewart, who smartly flicked the sphere into the far corner of the net. Thistle bad the best of matters from this on, and in the closing stages Christie added another goal, the final result being Thistle 6 Y.M.C.A 0
