METROPOLITAN TROTS. ESCAPADE BEATS THE PACERS. AND TAKES THE £1000 STAKE. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHKISTCHURCH, Saturday. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's autumn meeting opened today at Addington, and will be concluded on Wednesday. The weather was fine, there was a large attendance, and the track was in good order. A Facer for PuntersQiioen Ida, Lady Fan and Ciiiy Parrish were scratched for the Preliminary Handicap. Bridget Galindo was a hot favourite, carrying twice as much as Scbisca. Sebisca went off well, but broke before the end of a furlong. Freeman was leading at the end of a furlong, with Bridget Galindo. Notirniahal, Merry Peter, Merry Bingen and Herbilwyn in olose attendance. Bridget Galindo broke badly at the end of half a mile, where Nourmahal, Merry Bingen, Herbilwyn and Merry Peter were just showing clear of Real the Groat. A furlong later Herbilwyn was three lengths in front of Merry Bingen and Nourmahal, with Koal the Great, Merry Peter and Peter McKinnoy noxt. T-.vn furlongs from home Herbilwyn, Real the Great, Peter McKinney and Nourmahal were well clear of the others. Hcibiiwyn won easily by a length, with the third horse four lengths away, and Nourmahal four lengths further back fourth. A Three-Length Win. Rosie Nut was the only scratching in the Fendalton Handicap. Final Ml , - Kinney was a little better backed than Bingen Lad, these two being a long way ahead of Double Event, who was third fancy. Double Event broke up at the start. At the end of a furlong Final McKinnoy was showing n »t- three lengths in front of Lady Wild wood and Prince Lyons, with General Bingen next. Half a mile from home Final McKinnoy was just clear of General Bingen and Lady Wild wood, while three lengths away camo Prince Lyons ai.d Bell Fashion. Prince Lyons dropped out. the other four turning for homo close together. Final MeKinncy went on to win by three lengths from General Bingen, who boat Bell Fasiiitn by two lengths, with Lady Wildwood four lengths away fourth.

The Big Trot. In the Easter Handicap Escapade began smartly, followed by Talaro. Holly Boy, Trenand, and Black Admiral. At the end of half-a-mile Black Admiral was in charfje, with Talaro. Escapade, Trenand, and Queen's Own heading the others- The order had not changed at the mile post, and at the start of the last lap Black Admiral had a lead of two lengths from Escapade and Talaro, with Queen's Own and Trenand close up doing down the back Black Admiral, Trenand and Talaro were well clear of tho next bunch. Black Admiral was still in charge at the entrance to the straight. Escapade, finishing stronply, broke near the post, but beat Black Admiral by a head. Trenand was three lengths away, and The Sheik and Logan Chief next. The Express Handicap. In a field of fourteen for the Express Handicap, High Jinks was a little better backed than Fan Yan, with Fight Ever a good third favourite. Half-a-mile from home High Jinks was showing clear of Fight Ever and Haunui. A littlo further on Fight Ever moved up, and running round the homo turn drew out well clear of the next bunch, heading Haunui, with Dalrueny and Stunt Artist next! Fight Ever held his place and won easily by two lengths from Macaranda, who finished fast and beat Stunt Artist by a length, with Dalnienv fourth and Honour Bright fifth. A Great Betting Event.

Tho Autumn Handicap was a "real betting race. Peter McKinney proved to be the best backed. Little Lncr nn was soon in front, with Mount Ko~val in close attendance, while at tho end of half a-mile these two were followed by Frisco Beau and Nigh born At tho mile post Little Locran was two lengths in front of Mount Royal and Frisco Beau, who had been behind them Starting on the last lap Xighborn joined in, and half a-mile from home Little Logan was three lengths in front of Xighborn,, with Peter Swift. Peter McKinney and Le Todd close up. Little Logan was followed to the straight by Peter Swift, Le Todd and Pete Peter. Little Logan won by three lengths from Le Todd, who came up in the last few yards to beat Pete Peter by a head, with Peter Swift two lengths further back.

A Field of Twenty. Twenty horses faced the starter in the Wilkin Handicap. The Central Otago gelding, Jolly Chimes, was a little better backed than Transport, while the third choice of investors was Trimmer. Dusky Pointer was smartest to begin, followed by Golden Bubbles, Dillon CJuld. Trimmer and Kotuku Jack. After half a mile had been covered Kotuku Jack broke badly, interfering with several horses behind him. Dusky Pointer had a lead of six lengths at the end of six furlongs, with Golden Bubbles. Dillon Gold and Trimmer at the head-of the others. The order was unchanged at the end of a mile, with Home, Bold Bill and Jolly Chimes at the head of the next bunch. At the start of the last lap Dusky Pointer was still showing the way, but half a mile from home Trimmer took charge, with Home, Golden Bubbles, Dillon Gold and Jolly Chimes next. Home broke on entering the straight, Trimmer going on to win by a length from Golden Bubbles, with Home a further four lengths back.
