Mr. GREEXSLADE'S CAXDIDATLRI

An address was given by Mr. A. E. Grccnslade in the Masonic Hall. Northcote, on Thursday evening, in furtherance of his candidature for the otbee of Mayor. Mr. R. H. Daniels presided.

The policy of the council in regard to water rate and meter supplies was adversely criticised. expenditure such as the purchase of the tractor, the saving in maintenance by the concreting ot the main road, the larger receipts for heavy trallic licenses, ami the holding in abeyance of the creation of a sinking fund for the old waterworks loan, were mentioned as items which might counterbalance the additional amount needed for interest next year and the following one.

Tho expeditious completion was advocated of the works already sanctioned liy ratepayer.*, including the concrete paving of Queen Street, Belle Vue Avenue improvements, and the formation of a recreation ground at the Stafford Road reserve, besides the efficient maintenance of all main and subsidiary streets and footpaths.

The candidate was thanked at the con elusion of his remarks.
