"We have got along very well,"" said the Mayor (Mr. G. Baildon) at the close af the ordinary business at a meeting of the Auckland City Council on Thursday night, when he thanked the councillors for the assistance given him during the past two years. He said that there would be some new faces when the council next met, but those who were standing again lie wished the best of good luck. He added that the members of the Council had been loyal, and tlioy were indebted to a loyal Council stalf*

Mr. A. J. Entrican said that three of the Council. Messrs. J. W. Hardley, C. F. Bennett, and J. F. Robertson, were retiring. "There are," continued Mr. Kntrican, "two other counrillors who will not be with us again. (Laughter.) I mean not as councillors. (More laughter.) I am afraid that I am on pretty dangerous ground.*' (Renewed laughted.)

Mr. T. Blood worth said that he was speaking for the last time from a chair that he had occupied for eight years. He had enjoyed every minute of it, even the "scraps."' He hoped that the feeling of good fellowship and friendship would continue.

Mr. J. A. Warnock said that his associations with the Council had been very pleasant. He was sitting as a councillor for the last time, and the future was in "the lap of the gods." He trusted that whatever happened, friendships of long standing would not be broken.

In facetious mood Mr. L. A. Eady asked for an explanation why Mr. Bloodworth was wearing a white flower on the lapel of his coat, and Mr. M. J. Bennett a red flower, "Have they swapped buttonholes?" he inquired, amid laughter. Tbe Council carried a resolution thanking the retiring councillors for their services.
