ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The annual Dominion conference of the Xe\V Zealand Associated Churches of Christ opens to-day at Ponsonby Road, when delegates will he present from all over the country. Mr. Thomas Pryde. of Invercargill, will preside. The conference is expected to last until next Monday. To-night there will be a meeting at which social problems will be discussed.

The business session starts at 10 a.m. to-morrow, and in the cvenin" a Home Mission rally is to be held, when the new president is to be inducted. Saturday will be devoted to consideration of reports and the election of committees. Next Sunday there is to be a Sunday School demonstration, and on Monda'v the conference will terminate its sitting. The seventh annual report of the Home Missions states that satisfactory progress is being made. A svstem has been adopted under which Home Missions should become self-supporting in five years. The committee states it does not wish to get preachers for short-time engagements, but prefers to secure, even if it means some delay, the type of man to whom it can with "confidence offer an engagement of such length as will give him an opportunity to make ?ood with the Church, '-believing,'' states the report, "that only extended ministries really tell in the end for the permanent advancement of our cause." The balance-sheet showed that the finances are in a satisfactory state, the year closing with a small credit balance. The receipts totalled £1(!2S 0/(1. and the expenditure left a credit balance of i £28 17/6.
