ELECTRICITY CHARGES.

INTERESTING COMPARISON. AUCKLAND'S POSITION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Councillor J. B. Shackloek, chairman of the Electric Power and Lighting Committee of the City Council, stated to-day that the decision of the Christchurch City Council to reduce the domestic heating and cooking rate by one penny per unit, merely Drought 11 down to the charge that has been in force in Dunedin for a considerable time, in addition, a capacity charge of 10/ per kilowatt was made, but the message was silent about what was being charged in Christchurch. "They have to pay a capacity charge in some shape or form • in Auckland," he said. '"For instance ikl per unit is charged for the first 200 units and 3d for the next 200, but all in oxccss of that is charged at the rate of 1:1(1 a unit."

The Dunedin rate compared mure than favourably with Auckland as far as smaller users were concerned, but larger consumers were probably better treated. Auckland also allowed a discount of 5 per cent. A radiator rate in Dunedin was 2§d a unit with an indicator and 3d without one, plug 10/ capacity charge. The new rate in Christrhurch certainly appeared to be lower. In Auckland the charge was 4Jd.
